Basic animal protection If you ever lose or find an animal report it immediately to your local shelter or animal cotrol. Remember that someone could be frantically searching for their lost pet so help them find it by placing flyers around the neighborhood, or put an ad in the paper, and/or sometimes tv stations will help you. This information is also for you if you lost a pet. Do these things to get your pet home to you. If your pet is sick or hurt you should always take it to the vet. If this were a human member of your family, would you hesitate to call the doctor or go to the emergency room? Just as with humans, time is of the essence when you suspect illness or injury. Never wait days when you know your pet is not acting normally or when you know he or she has sustained an injury. Get your pet to a vet immediately when you notice abnormal behavior or signs of illness and distress. As a pet owner, be prepared in advance: know where the closest vet is and where to go for veterinary medical emergencies after hours. If cost is a factor, contact your local humane organization for referrals to the lowest cost animal clinics in your area. They are raising money for the victims and the families of September 11th. It is for their education. Education is a VERY important step in life, You need it to get anywhere and everywhere. Ways to help your community Here is a list of ways you can help your community: 1. Buy a can of paint and paint over some graffiti or offer to paint some old benches in a park 2. Pick up trash and sort for recycling 3. Volunteer at your local hospital or retirement home 4. Become a Big Sister or Big Brother 5. Plant flowers at your local park or retirement home 6. Bring your pet to your local retirement home (it has to be a calm and lovable pet and be sure to ask permission first) 7. Donate any can goods or boxed food items you might not eat to your local food bank 8. Go through all of your clothes and give them to your local mission 9. Volunteer to help clean up or do any other type of job at your local Humane Society 10. And, of course, there is always donating money to help Tell A Friend!
